All right, before you guys start all about veganism and why you are never stopping eating meat and stuff like that, please read this first.
I am not vegan, at least not 100%, but for a while, I have had a hard time keeping my weight as I wanted, in fact, I actually gained 10 pounds in a three month period out of nothing, or so I believed, the truth was that the fact that I was eating meat did not make me gain weight, but the meats and animal products I have chosen help me to gain weight consistently.
When I was heavier I made a few mistakes, the first one was that I was eating all kinds of meat and animal products, without taking in consideration that meat is composed of two major nutrients, protein and fat, everything looks alright so far but the problem is some types of fat can actually kill you like saturated fats, some studies even show that saturated fats decrease muscle mass and create more fat instead.
The second mistake is that I was eating the cheap meat that you find in the grocery store, the problem is not the price, the problem with that product is that the cattle under fattening are not fed with the best food, is well known that there are several documented cases of steroids and other hormones to accelerate the cattle growth, so I was eating all that stuff too, and yes if those hormones make the animals grow it also to you, in addition, many studies have shown that eating this meat increase the chances of diabetes by a 70%. So in a way I was not only getting fatter and heavier, I was making myself sick.
For me, it went all south when my doctor told me that I was on the edge of obesity, for a former competitive athlete that's a tough one to hear. So I decided to make some changes.
I am sharing with you the changes I made and the results in a new article.
Here is what I learned
Less meat does not always mean less muscle.
You have to be really selective with your protein. Consider vegan sources as well.
Lots of water is always a great idea when you are cleaning the body from toxins.
It is all about quality!
