CROSSFIT VS CALLISTHENICS

From all the training methods in the world, one of the most popular in the past few years is CrossFit,  developed by Greg Glassman created the regime back in 2000 and it focused on a variety of functional exercises designed to constantly increase strength, resistance, endurance and overall health. It combines weightlifting, gymnastics, running, rowing, HIIT and other types of training. After several years the CrossFit brand became global when Glassman signed the contract for the first CrossFit games back in 2007, now there are more than 13000 affiliate boxes across the US, Canada and Europe.

Many years passed and then an athletic movent reborn essentially in the US, Callisthenics, a form of bodyweight exercises designed to increase strength, mobility, speed, flexibility and fitness, back in the day it was a military practice to take the soldiers to a superior fitness level, now is an urban movement and it is commonly known as street workout.

Both types of training gained numerous followers rapidly over the past few years, but what is all the buzz about their rivalry? And wich one is better for you?

It is simple, both styles of training offer a certain level of difficulty in its execution, On one hand, CrossFit mixes cardio and weight training so you'll find that the workouts not only aid in building muscle but are much more efficient at burning calories than a Calisthenics workout as the variety and cardio should keep fat burning at a high. Callisthenics, on the other hand, focuses on compound exercises and complex movements, so there is a greater focus on pure strength and muscle.

In terms of popularity, the edge is for CrossFit, it is hard to compete with a global brand with that many followers across all continents, don't get me wrong Callisthenics has its great events too, such as The King of the Bar and Street Workout World Championships for example.

At the end all depends on what you want to achieve and your passion for this type of training.
